LAHORE: The Punjab government has distributed financial assistance to district and tehsil bar associations across Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, and Sargodha divisions as part of its ongoing support for the legal community.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan distributed Grant-in-Aid cheques during a ceremony held at the Civil Secretariat in Lahore on Sunday. The funds were provided to support the welfare and development of bar associations and legal professionals in the three divisions.
The event was attended by Punjab Irrigation Minister Kazim Ali Pirzada, members of the Punjab Assembly, senior officials from the Law Department, and representatives of bar councils and bar associations.
During the ceremony, the law minister also announced financial assistance of Rs10 million each for the families of two lawyers, Malik Israr and Zulfiqar, who were killed in Attock. A prayer was offered in their memory.
Funding allocated across three divisions
According to details shared by the Law Department, bar associations in Faisalabad Division received a total of Rs6.3 million in grants. The funding was distributed among district bar associations in Faisalabad, Chiniot, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh, as well as several tehsil bar associations across the division.
Bar associations in Bahawalpur Division received Rs5.2 million, benefiting district bars in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan, along with multiple tehsil bar associations.
In Sargodha Division, the District Bar Association Mianwali and tehsil bar associations in Isa Khel and Piplan received a combined Rs950,000 in grant funding.
Government pledges continued support
Addressing the gathering, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said the Punjab government, under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is implementing measures aimed at supporting lawyers and strengthening bar associations.
He said efforts are also under way to improve bar facilities, enhance professional development opportunities for lawyers, and strengthen access to justice through a more effective legal system.
Representatives of the legal community thanked the provincial government for the grants and said the funds would be used for welfare initiatives and the development of bar associations.
