LAHORE: The Punjab government has distributed financial grants to bar associations in Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sargodha divisions as part of efforts to support the legal community and improve facilities for lawyers.
The grants were distributed during a ceremony in Lahore attended by Punjab Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan and Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain. Officials said the funding would help strengthen bar associations and support the development of infrastructure and services for lawyers.
Speaking at the event, Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said the Punjab government is taking measures to address the professional and welfare needs of the legal fraternity. He said improving bar rooms, providing modern facilities and creating a better working environment for lawyers remain key priorities.
According to officials, grants worth Rs4.93 million were distributed among bar associations in Gujranwala Division, while bar associations in Gujrat Division received Rs4.15 million. Bar associations in Sargodha Division were allocated grants totaling Rs2.6 million.
Lawyers raise infrastructure and welfare concerns
During the ceremony, members of the legal community highlighted several issues, including parking facilities, the need for additional chambers, establishment of daycare centres and other administrative and welfare-related concerns.
The law minister assured participants that the government would continue working with bar associations to address these issues and improve facilities for legal professionals.
Government pledges continued support
Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan said financial assistance to bar associations would continue in the future to help strengthen institutions that support the justice system.
He noted that lawyers play an important role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring access to justice, adding that supporting the legal community remains an important responsibility of the government.
The ceremony was attended by senior legal figures, elected representatives, government officials and office-bearers of bar associations from Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat and other districts. Representatives of the bar associations welcomed the grant distribution and acknowledged the government’s efforts to address issues faced by lawyers.
