LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the issuance of special motorcycle driving licences for 16-year-old applicants as part of a new traffic policy aimed at improving road safety awareness and encouraging responsible driving among young riders.

Under the initiative, teenagers will be allowed to obtain restricted motorcycle licences after fulfilling specific requirements, including basic driving training and road safety education.

Officials said the policy is intended to address the issue of unlicensed motorcycle riding by providing a legal framework for young riders while promoting safer driving habits from an early age.

Training and safety requirements

According to authorities, applicants will be required to complete prescribed training and meet safety-related conditions before receiving a licence.

Officials emphasized that the licences will be subject to monitoring and regulatory measures designed to ensure compliance with traffic laws and road safety standards.

Part of broader traffic reforms

The decision forms part of wider efforts by the provincial government to modernize the licensing system and strengthen road discipline across Punjab.

Authorities believe that introducing structured licensing for younger riders can help improve awareness of traffic regulations and contribute to safer roads in the long term.

Further details regarding implementation procedures and eligibility requirements are expected to be announced by the relevant departments.
