LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the recruitment of retired military personnel to monitor educational institutions across the province, with the hiring process already underway.
According to details, retired military personnel will be recruited as Monitoring and Evaluation Officers (MEOs) in 22 districts of Punjab. The appointments will initially be made on one-year contracts, with selected officers to receive a monthly salary of Rs60,000 along with other benefits and facilities under the Education Department’s rules.
The monitoring officers will also be provided official motorcycles to facilitate field visits. Their contracts may be extended after one year based on the applicable provisions.
The recruitment will be carried out under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).
Applications have reportedly been invited from retired military personnel, including GCOs and NCOs, until September 7. Candidates must be between 30 and 55 years of age, hold at least a graduation degree and possess a Punjab domicile.
Applicants are also required to have IT-related experience and meet the required fitness standards.
In the first phase, 28 Monitoring and Evaluation Officers will be recruited, comprising 21 retired military personnel and seven civilians. Separate recruitment is planned for other districts in the second phase.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Education Department has also decided to extend the contracts of around 150,000 school teaching interns working on a temporary, daily-wage basis with lump-sum salaries.
A summary seeking approval from Chief Minister Punjab has been forwarded for a nine-month extension of their contracts. If approved, the extension will cover the ongoing academic session through March 2027, after which a formal notification is expected to be issued.
