Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was informed that Pakistan currently has sufficient petroleum stocks to meet domestic requirements, as officials briefed him on fuel availability amid regional and global uncertainties.
The update was shared during a meeting in Islamabad reviewing fuel conservation and austerity measures, where authorities said supply levels remain stable and monitoring systems are in place to track petroleum stocks and usage.
Officials told the meeting that implementation of government directives on fuel conservation is underway, with the Intelligence Bureau tasked to submit regular monitoring reports.
The prime minister directed the Ministry of Petroleum to further strengthen the country’s fuel import supply chain and ensure preparedness for any emergency situation until conditions improve.
Senior cabinet members, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, attended the meeting along with other officials.
Monitoring and conservation measures
Participants were informed that petroleum stock records are being closely maintained to identify any irregularities. The government has also implemented measures to reduce fuel consumption across departments.
Officials said cabinet members have voluntarily foregone their salaries as part of austerity steps, while reduced fuel usage in government offices is beginning to show positive results.
Preparedness and essential supplies
The meeting was also told that sufficient stocks of medicines are available in the country. Authorities added that systems are in place to ensure continuity of government operations, including work-from-home arrangements supported by the Ministry of Information Technology.
