Hyderabad power supply was fully restored by 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday after a fire broke out at a 250 MVA autotransformer at the National Grid Company’s 220kV Grid Station on Hala Road, officials said.
According to the National Grid Company of Pakistan, the fire disrupted electricity supply to parts of Hyderabad after it erupted at 6:05 a.m. The company said the affected autotransformer, identified as T-1, was immediately isolated and power was restored through alternate arrangements.
NGC said its Hyderabad region management mobilized field teams soon after the incident and coordinated with local firefighting departments and emergency rescue services to bring the fire under control.
The company said the remaining two 220/132kV power transformers and 132kV busbars were charged after the affected equipment was isolated. The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company distribution network is now operating normally, according to the NGC spokesperson.
Officials said the isolation of the damaged transformer was carried out to prevent further risk to personnel, equipment and the wider power system.
NGC management has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fire at the Hala Road grid station.
