Health experts have advised the public to avoid excessive meat consumption during periods of extreme heat, warning that overeating meat can increase the risk of digestive problems and other health complications, particularly during Eid-ul-Adha.
According to medical professionals, consuming large quantities of meat in hot weather can lead to indigestion, acidity, stomach discomfort, and other gastrointestinal issues. Fatty and heavily spiced meat dishes may place additional strain on the digestive system, making it harder for the body to process food efficiently.
Experts noted that meat consumption typically rises during Eid-ul-Adha, often exceeding normal dietary intake. As a result, cases of nausea, bloating, gas, stomach pain, and indigestion tend to increase during the holiday period.
Recommendations for a balanced diet
Health specialists recommend eating meat in moderation and pairing it with water-rich and cooling foods such as salads, yogurt, and lemon-based drinks. These foods can help maintain hydration and support digestion during hot weather.
They also advised limiting the consumption of barbecue items and deep-fried foods, which may contribute to digestive discomfort, especially during periods of high temperatures.
Safe food storage remains important
Medical experts emphasized the importance of following proper food storage practices, including refrigerating meat correctly to prevent spoilage and reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses.
People with heart disease, diabetes, and digestive disorders have been urged to take extra precautions and maintain a balanced diet. Experts also recommend serving smaller portions of meat to children and older adults to help protect their health during the summer season.
