MAKKAH: Television host Fakhr-e-Alam has explained why he and former Pakistan cricket captains Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq did not shave their heads after completing Hajj, saying they followed religious guidance that allows pilgrims to either shave their heads or trim their hair.

The clarification came after the three public figures performed Hajj together, prompting questions on social media about why they chose not to undergo a full head shave, a practice commonly associated with the completion of pilgrimage rituals.

Speaking in a video shared after Hajj, Fakhr-e-Alam said they consulted several religious scholars before traveling to Saudi Arabia. According to him, the scholars informed them that pilgrims have two valid options after completing the required rites: shaving the head entirely or cutting a portion of their hair.

Religious guidance cited by Fakhr-e-Alam

Fakhr-e-Alam said scholars advised that while shaving the head carries greater spiritual reward, trimming the hair is also permissible and fulfills the religious requirement.

He noted that the group opted for the latter option based on the guidance they received before undertaking the pilgrimage.

Social media discussion follows Hajj appearance

The issue drew attention after images and videos of Fakhr-e-Alam, Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq circulated online following their Hajj journey.

Their appearance prompted questions from some social media users about the completion of the post-Hajj ritual, leading Fakhr-e-Alam to publicly explain the religious basis for their decision.

The comments have since sparked wider discussion about the different permissible practices associated with concluding the pilgrimage.
