JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia is preparing to launch its first T20 cricket league later this year, with the tournament expected to feature retired international players and six franchise teams.

According to reports from cricket media outlets, the Devons League T20 has received approval from the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation and is scheduled to take place in October.

The league is expected to include recently retired international cricketers who continue to participate in franchise tournaments around the world.

Reports said the competition will feature six teams, with matches likely to be held in the city of Taif.

League to feature former international players

According to the reported format, each franchise could sign up to four players who represented full-member international cricket teams within the last two years.

Organisers are also expected to offer player contracts worth up to $100,000 for participation in the tournament.

The planned league reflects Saudi Arabia’s growing interest in expanding its presence in international sports, including cricket, football, golf and motorsports.

Further details regarding participating players, fixtures and team ownership are expected to be announced in the coming months.
