KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to limit Babar Azam’s interactions with the English media during Pakistan’s upcoming Test tour of England.
Speaking on a television programme, Latif suggested that Babar should avoid extensive media engagements during the tour, while former captain Shan Masood should take on a greater share of the team’s media responsibilities.
Latif said touring England is challenging and that the local media can sometimes place visiting teams and players under unnecessary scrutiny.
According to the former wicketkeeper-batter, Shan Masood’s experience of playing in England makes him better equipped to deal with the English media and handle media-related responsibilities during the tour.
Latif’s comments came after Babar delivered a strong performance in Pakistan’s recent Test series against the West Indies.
Babar scored 88 in the second Test and then remained unbeaten on 24 during the run chase, helping Pakistan secure an eight-wicket victory.
Pakistan are scheduled to begin their three-Test series against England on August 19 at Headingley in Leeds. The second Test will be played at Lord’s, followed by the third at Edgbaston.
