KARACHI: Imran Anees Siddiqui won the Naya Nazimabad Jashn-e-Azadi Snooker Championship after defeating Mujaddid Khan in a thrilling final at the Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana.
The best-of-five final went down to a decisive black-ball tie-breaker, where Siddiqui emerged victorious following an exciting contest. Mujaddid Khan put up a strong fight but conceded the title after a wayward shot in the final frame.
Former federal minister and senior MQM-Pakistan leader Dr. Farooq Sattar attended the closing ceremony as chief guest alongside Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana President Syed Muhammad Talha. They distributed prizes among the participating players.
Addressing the ceremony, Dr. Farooq Sattar praised both finalists for their performances and said that winning and losing are an integral part of sport. He congratulated Siddiqui on his victory and encouraged Khan to continue working hard.
Dr. Sattar also praised the sporting facilities at Naya Nazimabad, describing them as outstanding. He highlighted the development of the area as a sports hub, with infrastructure supporting more than 20 sports, including swimming, squash, cricket, football and badminton.
He said the facilities provide young people with an opportunity to develop their skills and prepare for domestic and international competitions.
Hassan Khan secured third place after recording the tournament’s highest break of 49, while Muhammad Atiq (Ami) was defeated in the semifinal.
Muhammad Ahmed officiated as referee during the championship.
Prominent businessmen Tariq Iqbal, Saleem Tariq and Kamran Sheikh, along with Sports Manager Muhammad Asif, Field Manager Irfan Sajid and other guests, also attended the closing ceremony.
