ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has imposed a nationwide ban on the sale of SIM cards between midnight and 6am as part of efforts to prevent the misuse of illegal and unauthorized SIMs.
Under the new directive, mobile phone companies and authorized retailers across Pakistan have been instructed to suspend SIM sales during the restricted hours. The PTA said the measure was introduced to strengthen consumer protection and improve transparency in the telecom sector.
The authority said all franchises, retailers and sales points would be responsible for implementing the new timings.
PTA warns of action against violators
According to the PTA, strict legal and administrative action under telecom regulations will be taken against individuals or businesses found violating the directive.
The authority advised consumers to purchase SIM cards only from authorized centers during approved business hours and ensure biometric verification before activation.
Officials said the move was aimed at reducing the circulation of fake SIMs and improving overall security measures linked to mobile communications.
Public urged to report violations
The PTA also encouraged citizens to report violations through its Complaint Management System, PTA CMS mobile application, WhatsApp digital assistant service or toll-free helpline.
A PTA spokesperson said the decision was part of broader efforts to prevent SIM misuse and maintain a secure telecommunications environment in the country.
