ISLAMABAD, June 24, 2026: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has initiated an inquiry into the alleged circulation of misleading and false information targeting Easypaisa Bank Limited across social media platforms over the past two weeks.

The case was initiated following a complaint filed by Naresh Kumar Aruwani, Head of Country Litigation at Easypaisa Bank Limited, who sought legal action against individuals allegedly involved in spreading content aimed at damaging public trust in the financial institution.

The NCCIA inquiry into misleading social media content targeting Easypaisa Bank Limited is being conducted under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016, according to official sources.

Allegations of coordinated online misinformation

The complaint alleges that certain influencers and digital content creators circulated exaggerated and misleading claims about the bank’s financial stability and operations, prompting unnecessary concern among customers and encouraging fund withdrawal speculation.

Sources said a senior NCCIA officer has been assigned to the inquiry to identify individuals involved in the creation and dissemination of the content.

Easypaisa Bank Limited has denied the allegations circulating online, describing them as false and baseless. The institution said its services remain fully operational and customer funds remain secure.

Bank clarifies operational disruption reports

The bank acknowledged that some digital services experienced temporary technical disruptions during the period in question but said the issue was operational and resolved quickly, with no impact on deposits or overall financial stability.

Easypaisa, which operates as a regulated digital financial institution under the State Bank of Pakistan, reiterated its commitment to customer protection and financial inclusion. It also urged users to rely on official communications and verified regulatory updates.
