Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ: Pakistan Announces Public Holiday on August 26

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has declared Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a public holiday across Pakistan on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ, marking 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal 1448 AH.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved the nationwide holiday in connection with the observance of the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The notification was issued in continuation of the Cabinet Division’s earlier circular regarding public and optional holidays for 2026.

Government offices and institutions across the country will remain closed on Wednesday, allowing people to participate in religious gatherings and activities associated with Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ.

The confirmation of the holiday follows the announcement by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee regarding the beginning of Rabi-ul-Awwal. Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad announced that the Rabi-ul-Awwal moon was not sighted on August 13, confirming that Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ will be observed in Pakistan on August 26.

Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ is observed on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims across Pakistan mark the occasion with religious gatherings, conferences, processions, recitation of the Holy Quran, Naat gatherings and special prayers.

Mosques, streets, homes and public buildings are traditionally illuminated and decorated for the occasion, while religious scholars highlight the life, teachings and message of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Stock Exchange has also announced that it will remain closed on Wednesday, August 26, in connection with Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ.
