An Indian Air Force AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while landing at the Jorhat airbase in Assam on Saturday, according to Indian media reports.
The incident took place at Air Force Station Jorhat, where the aircraft reportedly caught fire after the crash. Initial reports said rescue and emergency response teams were sent to the site soon after the incident.
Indian media, citing officials, reported that the aircraft was involved in a landing-related accident. The Indian Air Force confirmed the incident and ordered an inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.
Reports said five Indian Air Force personnel were killed in the crash, while one person survived and was receiving medical treatment. Authorities had not immediately released full details about the circumstances that led to the accident.
The AN-32 is a twin-engine military transport aircraft used by the Indian Air Force for logistics, personnel movement and cargo operations, particularly in remote and difficult terrain.
