Indian authorities have arrested Vishakha Rathore, the alleged mastermind behind an ₹880 million (88 crore) investment fraud, after she was deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to India following an international investigation.
According to India’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Maharashtra, Vishakha Rathore was taken into custody upon her arrival at Pune Airport after being deported from Dubai.
Arrest followed Interpol Red Notice
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Vishakha Rathore was wanted in connection with a large-scale investment fraud case and was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice.
Indian authorities said the operation involved coordination between the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, Interpol, and UAE authorities.
Interpol reportedly detained the suspect in the UAE on August 3, after which she was deported to India, where police arrested her immediately upon arrival.
Couple accused of running investment scam
Investigators allege that Vishakha Rathore and her husband, Avinash Arjun Rathore, established a company that promised investors unusually high monthly returns through various investment schemes.
Police claim the couple collected money from numerous investors before allegedly transferring the funds into multiple bank and demat accounts and fleeing the country.
Authorities estimate the total fraud at approximately ₹880 million, with a large number of investors reportedly affected.
Husband previously extradited
Vishakha Rathore’s husband, Avinash Arjun Rathore, was also brought back from the UAE on July 23, 2026.
He was arrested upon arrival at Mumbai Airport and later transferred to Pune, where a court granted police custody for further investigation.
According to investigators, fraud cases were registered against the couple in 2023, after which they allegedly fled abroad. A Look Out Circular was issued in April 2024, followed by arrest warrants from a special court.
Interpol issued Red Notices against both suspects in June 2026, leading to their location, detention, and deportation from the UAE.
The Economic Offences Wing said the investigation is continuing to trace the allegedly defrauded funds, identify overseas assets, and determine whether additional individuals were involved in the scheme.
