KARACHI: Pakistani actor and producer Fahad Mustafa has expressed concern over the impact of early cinema closures and has urged the Punjab government to review operating hours for cinemas to support the country’s film industry.
In an open letter addressed to Marriyum Aurangzeb, Fahad Mustafa requested greater flexibility in cinema operating hours, arguing that current restrictions are affecting both cinema operators and moviegoers.
According to the actor, austerity measures requiring shopping malls and cinemas located within them to close by 8 p.m. are creating challenges for the entertainment industry.
Concern over impact on cinema industry
Fahad Mustafa said cinemas rely heavily on evening and late-night audiences, as many people remain occupied with work, studies, and other commitments during the day.
He noted that limiting operating hours reduces opportunities for moviegoers to attend screenings and may negatively affect cinema business and film revenues.
Call for review of operating hours
The actor urged authorities to consider the needs of the entertainment sector while formulating policies related to business operating hours.
He emphasized that providing audiences with sufficient time to watch films could help support cinemas and contribute to the growth of Pakistan’s film industry.
The appeal comes amid ongoing discussions about the impact of operational restrictions on various sectors of the economy, including entertainment and leisure businesses.
