Lahore: Work has begun on a new sewerage pipeline project in Awan Town under the Lahore Development Program, with authorities aiming to address longstanding drainage and wastewater management issues affecting local residents.
The Rs10 million project will connect Awan Town’s sewerage network to the Main Trunk Sewer on Multan Road. Officials say the scheme is expected to provide a long-term solution to sewerage problems in the area and improve sanitation services for thousands of residents.
The foundation stone for the project was laid during a ceremony attended by Punjab Minister for Energy and Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar and Member of the National Assembly Hafiz Mian Muhammad Nauman.
According to project details, the new pipeline is being installed to improve the area’s drainage infrastructure ahead of the monsoon season. Officials said the project is part of ongoing development initiatives being implemented under the Lahore Development Program.
Speaking at the event, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said the government was prioritizing public infrastructure and civic improvement projects across Punjab. He directed the relevant authorities to complete the sewerage pipeline before the start of the monsoon season to help prevent disruptions caused by heavy rainfall.
Hafiz Mian Muhammad Nauman said resolving sewerage issues in Awan Town had been a key concern raised by residents. He noted that the project would benefit not only Awan Town but also nearby localities connected to the area’s drainage network.
Focus on urban infrastructure
Officials said the project is intended to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve sanitation services in the area. The new connection to the Main Trunk Sewer is expected to enhance wastewater disposal capacity and reduce recurring sewerage-related problems.
A number of local residents attended the inauguration ceremony, while community representatives and local officials were also present.
