US Embassy in Islamabad marks 250 years of American independence

Islamabad: The United States Embassy in Islamabad hosted a Freedom 250 celebration to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence and highlight the longstanding relationship between the United States and Pakistan.

The event brought together government officials, business leaders, academics, civil society representatives, and cultural figures from across Pakistan. According to the U.S. Mission, the gathering formed part of a year-long series of activities leading up to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

Addressing the event, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker described the occasion as a celebration of American democratic values and the partnership between the United States and Pakistan.

She said the event marked both 250 years of American freedom and nearly eight decades of ties between the people of the two countries.

The ceremony featured a presentation of colors by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard, performances of the national anthems of Pakistan and the United States, and musical performances by the U.S. Air Force Central Command Band and Pakistani singer Bilal Saeed.

The celebrations concluded with a fireworks display in Islamabad.

Part of global Freedom 250 campaign

According to the U.S. Mission, Freedom 250 is a year-long international initiative being observed by American embassies and consulates around the world to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

Officials said the programme aims to reflect on American history and democratic institutions while promoting engagement with partner countries through cultural and public diplomacy activities.

The Islamabad event was one of several Freedom 250 celebrations being held globally as part of preparations for the anniversary observances in 2026.
