ISLAMABAD: Maroof International Hospital and Mövenpick Hotel Centaurus Islamabad jointly hosted an International Nurses Day seminar in Islamabad to recognise the contribution of nurses and discuss Pakistan’s growing healthcare and medical tourism sector.
The event brought together government officials, healthcare professionals, students, lady health workers and representatives from the corporate and hospitality sectors. Chairman Senate Yousuf Raza Gilani attended as chief guest, while Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan participated as guest of honour alongside Maroof International Hospital Chairman Ch. Naseer Ahmed.
Addressing the seminar, Gilani described nurses as an essential part of Pakistan’s healthcare system and called for continued support for the nursing profession.
Focus on healthcare workforce and medical tourism
Haroon Naseer, CEO of Maroof International Hospital and Convener Health Committee FPCCI, stressed the need for investment in nursing education, training and professional development to strengthen healthcare delivery in Pakistan.
Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan highlighted opportunities for Pakistan in medical and wellness tourism, saying the country could emerge as a regional destination for affordable healthcare services by combining medical expertise with hospitality infrastructure.
The seminar also recognised the role of nurses in patient care, emergency response and community health services. Organisers said the event concluded with a renewed commitment from healthcare and industry stakeholders to support nursing professionals and promote healthcare innovation through public-private partnerships.
