LAHORE: Punjab’s Energy Minister Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar has directed an immediate crackdown on the sale of fake and substandard electronic appliances, aiming to curb fraud and strengthen consumer protection across the province.
The move targets manufacturers, distributors, and retailers involved in supplying uncertified products, with authorities instructed to take strict legal action against violators. Officials said the initiative is intended to improve market standards and restore consumer confidence.
According to the Energy Department, a coordinated strategy will be developed in collaboration with the Industry Department to eliminate counterfeit and low-quality electronic goods from the market.
The minister emphasized that only certified and quality-assured appliances should be available for sale, directing companies to comply fully with safety and quality regulations. Authorities have been asked to carry out enforcement actions without exception.
Focus on consumer awareness and compliance
Alongside enforcement, the government plans to launch a public awareness campaign to help consumers identify genuine products and avoid fraud. Officials said the campaign will provide guidance on quality standards and purchasing practices.
The provincial government said the crackdown is part of broader efforts to ensure a transparent marketplace, promote fair competition, and support manufacturers producing compliant and high-quality products.
