LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said the provincial government is taking key steps to improve the nursing sector as officials held discussions with the Asian Development Bank on healthcare workforce reforms in Punjab.
The discussion took place during a meeting between Punjab health authorities and an ADB delegation at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, where both sides reviewed the Punjab Nursing and Health Workforce Reform Project.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said trained and experienced nurses from Punjab are in demand internationally and described the nursing sector as a vital part of the healthcare system.
Focus on nursing education and workforce reforms
The health minister said the Punjab government was committed to strengthening nursing education and improving healthcare services across the province. He also thanked the Asian Development Bank for its cooperation in supporting reforms in the nursing sector.
Secretary Health Punjab Azmat Mahmood said authorities were introducing improvements to the nursing curriculum and taking steps for the capacity building of nursing faculty members.
The ADB delegation assured full support for nursing sector reforms and expressed interest in promoting research in nursing education and healthcare services in Punjab.
The delegation was led by Mission Leader Hiddo Hotzing and included Brian Chen, Fatima Arshad and Mansoor Ali.
