The International Cricket Council has fined Pakistan 40% of their match fee and deducted eight World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow over-rate during the first Test against Bangladesh national cricket team at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Match referee Jeff Crowe ruled that Pakistan were eight overs short of the required target after accounting for time allowances during the match.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Kumar Dharmasena, along with third umpire Allahuddien Palekar and fourth umpire Gazi Sohel.
Pakistan lose eight WTC points
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over not completed within the allotted time. Pakistan were therefore fined 40% of their match fees.
According to ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, teams also lose one point for each over short, resulting in an eight-point deduction for Pakistan.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, removing the need for a formal hearing.
The penalty followed Bangladesh’s 104-run victory over Pakistan, marking the hosts’ first home Test win against Pakistan. Chasing 268 runs, Pakistan were dismissed for 163, giving Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
The second Test will be played at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from May 16 to 20.
