Islamabad — Former Senior Executive of Mobilink Microfinance Bank, Ema Khan, staged a protest outside the Islamabad Press Club, appealing to senior authorities, the State Bank of Pakistan, and relevant institutions to provide justice.
She alleged that over the past two years, she has faced workplace harassment, pressure, unlawful detention, threats, and institutional injustice at the hands of Mobilink Bank’s leadership, which she says is linked to Jazz and VEON.
According to Ema Khan, on June 14, 2024, before Eid, she was allegedly unlawfully detained for more than two hours on the orders of certain senior bank officials. She further claimed that instead of conducting transparent investigations into her complaints, the individuals involved were protected.
She stated that employees who allegedly kept her in unlawful confinement informed her that the entire incident was being carried out on the instructions of then-interim CEO Haris Mahmood Chaudhry.
Ema Khan said that despite repeatedly seeking justice through various channels, her voice was ignored, and she has instead been subjected to legal pressure, false cases, and heavy defamation claims.
According to her, in the unlawful detention case, the court had appointed a commission, but bank staff allegedly misbehaved with the commission and failed to provide CCTV footage. She added that the judicial commission documented all details of the matter in a 15-page report.
During the protest, Ema Khan demanded an independent and transparent investigation into the matter and called for those responsible to be brought before the law. She said that such allegations within institutions that claim to uphold women’s rights, ethical governance, and safe workplaces are deeply alarming.
She appealed to the Chief Justice, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, and relevant regulatory bodies to take immediate notice of the matter and ensure that she is provided justice and protection.
