Iran warns of “painful” response if US resumes attacks amid rising tensions

TEHRAN/WASHINGTON: Iran has warned it will launch a “long and painful” response against U.S. interests if Washington renews military strikes, as tensions remain high following recent conflict developments in the region.

The warning comes as the United States reviews potential military options and regional instability continues to impact global energy markets and security dynamics. Iranian officials signalled that any renewed escalation could trigger strikes on U.S. positions across the region.

A senior official from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said even limited U.S. action would lead to sustained retaliation, while military commanders indicated that both regional bases and naval assets could be targeted.

The developments follow ongoing tensions linked to the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which has disrupted key routes such as the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global energy corridor. The disruption has affected a significant share of global oil and gas supply, contributing to volatility in international energy prices.

U.S. officials are reportedly considering further steps, including military and strategic options, while diplomatic efforts continue with limited expectations of immediate progress.

Meanwhile, air defence activity has been reported in Tehran, and several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, have issued travel advisories urging citizens to avoid affected regions.

The United Nations has warned that prolonged disruption in the region could impact global economic growth, increase inflation, and push millions into poverty if tensions persist.
