COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) has announced a wide-ranging reform agenda focused on digital transformation, artificial intelligence integration, academic modernization, and institutional governance, as university leadership outlined priorities for the next phase of development.

The plans were discussed during the first Conference of Campus Directors held in Islamabad on June 2 under the chairmanship of Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar. University officials said the meeting marked an important step in implementing reforms aimed at improving educational quality, operational efficiency, student services, and long-term institutional growth.

Addressing the conference, Prof. Qamar reviewed progress made during the first three months of his tenure. He said the university had completed the appointment of regular Campus Directors and Principal Officers, ending years of interim administrative arrangements and establishing permanent leadership across all constituent campuses.

The rector said administrative reforms and sustainability-focused initiatives have improved institutional efficiency while generating cost savings. He added that the university is now better positioned to strengthen governance, service delivery, and strategic planning.

Digital transformation at the center of future strategy

A key focus of the conference was the university’s digital transformation agenda. Prof. Qamar directed campuses to accelerate the digitization of legacy records and administrative processes, describing digital governance as a central component of the institution’s future development.

The university plans to move toward a paperless environment supported by artificial intelligence tools and modern digital systems. Officials said these changes are intended to improve efficiency, transparency, and decision-making across campuses.

New learning model and future-ready skills

Conference participants were briefed on a newly developed Adaptive Learning Model that will be delivered through the CUI Virtual Campus. The initiative aims to enhance the delivery of advanced, specialized, and general education courses while ensuring more consistent academic standards across campuses.

The university also announced progress in implementing its 6-C Framework, which focuses on equipping students with skills in Coding, Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Communication Skills, Co-Intelligence, and Creativity. University officials said the framework is designed to prepare graduates for emerging opportunities in a rapidly evolving technology-driven economy.

Focus on student experience and inclusivity

Campus directors discussed challenges and opportunities facing different campuses and agreed that improving student experience, strengthening learning outcomes, and enhancing support services should remain core institutional priorities.

The rector also emphasized the importance of faculty and staff development, particularly in areas related to artificial intelligence and digital technologies. He called for faster administrative processes and reduced turnaround times for routine university matters.

Prof. Qamar reaffirmed COMSATS University’s commitment to gender inclusivity and encouraged greater participation of women in leadership and governance positions, setting a target of 50 percent representation in decision-making roles across campuses.

Expansion plans and alumni engagement

On infrastructure development, the rector said discussions are underway with the Ministry of Science and Technology to secure funding for the expansion of the Abbottabad, Attock, Quetta, and Islamabad campuses.

He also highlighted plans to strengthen engagement with the university’s alumni network, which includes more than 114,000 graduates worldwide. According to university officials, future development initiatives will also seek support from philanthropists and industry partners through corporate social responsibility programs.

The conference concluded with a commitment from university leadership to implement key reforms and deliver measurable improvements across the COMSATS system within the next 100 days.
