SOUTH WAZIRISTAN, April 29:
At least five civilians, including four children and a woman, were injured after a mortar shell fired from across the Afghan border struck a residential house near Angoor Adda in South Waziristan, local sources and officials said on Tuesday.
The shell reportedly landed at the home of local residents Karim Khan and Rehmatullah, causing injuries to family members. The wounded include children aged 13, 10, 8, and 3 years. All injured were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Wana, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Residents of the area expressed concern and grief over the incident, calling for measures to ensure civilian safety in the volatile border region. According to local accounts, tensions have remained high in recent days, with a similar incident reported earlier in the week in which three people were injured due to cross-border firing.
Security sources stated that Pakistani forces responded to the incident by targeting the suspected firing positions across the border. However, there has been no independent confirmation from Afghan authorities regarding the shelling or subsequent developments.
Border areas along South Waziristan have witnessed intermittent incidents of cross-border fire, raising concerns about civilian safety and regional stability.
