ISLAMABAD, April 29 — Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has initiated a free cardiac screening program for its employees following recent health concerns, including sudden deaths linked to heart-related conditions.

The university said the initiative aims to support early detection and prevention of cardiovascular diseases among staff. The screening is being conducted at the campus Healthcare Center and will cover around 800 employees in phased batches.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood approved the program after taking notice of the situation, directing authorities to prioritize employee well-being and ensure timely medical assessment. Officials said employees identified with potential cardiac issues will be referred to specialists, with treatment costs covered by the university.

Phased screening and medical oversight

Under the plan, 20 batches have been formed to manage the screening process efficiently. Medical reports will be reviewed by Dr. Shaheera Kabsha, who will provide guidance and recommend further care where needed.

Director Administration and Coordination Prof. Dr. Syed Amir Shah said a structured plan has been developed to ensure all employees are screened without delays.

Expansion to regional campuses

The vice chancellor has also instructed that the program be extended to AIOU’s regional campuses on an emergency basis, allowing employees in remote areas to access the same facilities.

University officials said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen workplace health measures and reduce risks associated with undiagnosed cardiac conditions.
