ISLAMABAD, April 29: COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) has launched a comprehensive Life Skills Programme aimed at enhancing employability, digital adaptability, and socio-economic mobility for its staff and students.

The initiative, inaugurated at the university’s Islamabad campus on Tuesday, is designed to equip participants with practical, market-relevant skills beyond their traditional academic and administrative roles. University officials say the programme reflects a broader institutional strategy to prepare its workforce for the evolving demands of a digital economy.

The initiative was envisioned by Rector Prof. Dr. Raheel Qamar, who highlighted the university’s transition toward digitisation of academic and administrative functions. Addressing the launch ceremony, he noted that this transformation necessitates new competencies and adaptive roles across the institution.

He emphasized that existing employees would be given priority access to the training opportunities, ensuring that the current workforce remains integral to the university’s development. He added that such structured upskilling initiatives could serve as a model for other higher education institutions across Pakistan.

The programme has already attracted significant interest, with over 500 employees registering for a wide range of courses. These include training in generative artificial intelligence for office productivity, digital marketing, cybersecurity, defensive driving, income tax filing, and Chinese language.

In addition to digital and professional skills, the programme also offers hands-on technical training in fields such as woodworking, painting, HVAC and air-conditioning repair, and solar system installation—aimed at enabling participants to explore alternative income streams.

All courses are being offered free of cost, underscoring the university’s commitment to inclusive professional development and capacity building.

Senior management officials and participants attended the launch event, marking the beginning of what CUI describes as a forward-looking initiative to strengthen economic resilience and career mobility among its community members.
