SHANGLA: Three people, including two brothers, were killed after a tractor carrying passengers plunged into a deep ravine in the mountainous district of Shangla on Friday, according to police and rescue officials.

The accident occurred on the Banar Khwargai Link Road in the upper areas of Union Council Dherai when the tractor, which was traveling from Banar Khwargai towards Karora, reportedly went out of the driver’s control and fell into a deep gorge.

The victims were identified as Akbar Hussain and Akhtar Hussain, sons of Pikhawaray, and Fawad Ali, son of Umar Rahman. All three belonged to the Banar Khwargai area of Shangla district.

Victims Died at the Scene

According to local sources, the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating the narrow and steep mountain road. The tractor veered off the track and tumbled into the ravine, causing fatal injuries to the occupants.

Rescue officials said the three victims died at the scene before medical assistance could reach them.

Rescue Operation Launched

Following the accident, teams from Rescue 1122, local residents, and personnel from Karora Police Station reached the site and launched a rescue and recovery operation.

Officials said the rugged terrain and depth of the ravine made the operation difficult. However, rescuers managed to recover the bodies and transport them to Karora Hospital.

Hospital authorities confirmed that all three victims had succumbed to their injuries at the scene. After completion of legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to their families for burial.

Community Mourns Loss of Two Brothers

The incident cast a shadow of grief over Banar Khwargai and surrounding areas, particularly due to the loss of two brothers in the same accident.

Relatives, friends, and local residents gathered to offer condolences and prayers for the deceased. Community members also expressed concern over the dangers posed by narrow and poorly maintained mountain roads in remote areas.

Investigation Underway

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Preliminary findings suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, although officials said a detailed inquiry is underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Road accidents involving tractors and other transport vehicles remain a recurring safety concern in the mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where difficult terrain and limited road infrastructure often increase the risk of serious incidents.
