ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) says its sanitation teams completed rainwater drainage operations across Islamabad after remaining deployed during and after rainfall on Saturday.
According to the authority, sanitation workers stayed in the field throughout the rain and continued operations after it stopped, clearing accumulated water from major roads, markets, residential areas, drains, nullahs and other public spaces.
The CDA said teams worked in difficult weather conditions to remove blockages, clean drainage points and gratings, and restore the flow of rainwater in affected areas.
Special monitoring was also carried out on key roads, commercial areas and populated localities to keep streets accessible, minimise inconvenience for residents and help maintain the flow of traffic.
The authority said sanitation workers remained active beyond the rainfall itself, as post-rain cleanup involved removing standing water, mud, leaves, waste and other debris from roads, drains and public spaces.
CDA officials said restoring drainage routes after rainfall is a labour-intensive process that requires continuous field deployment, particularly in areas where water and debris can accumulate quickly.
Residents also appreciated the sanitation workers for remaining on duty during adverse weather, according to the CDA.
“When the city sleeps, our sanitation workers stay awake,” the authority said, highlighting the role of frontline staff working late at night and during heavy rain.
The CDA said the work carried out by sanitation teams reflects its broader effort to keep Islamabad clean, functional and accessible during difficult weather conditions.
The authority added that sanitation staff will continue to remain available around the clock, when required, to respond to future rainfall, drainage issues and other emergency situations across the capital.
