Bollywood actor Salman Khan has received relief in his legal battle over the controversial film Kala Haran, with the Delhi High Court preventing the movie from being released in cinemas while its certification by India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) remains pending.
According to Indian media reports, the court recorded the statement of the film’s producer, Amit Jani, during a hearing held on September 11. The court said the film cannot be released in theatres until the CBFC certification process is resolved.
Film Based on Blackbuck Hunting Case
Kala Haran is described as a crime thriller and drama inspired by the 1998 blackbuck hunting incident in Rajasthan, a case in which Salman Khan was named. The blackbuck holds religious significance for the Bishnoi community, and the incident led to a long-running legal controversy involving the actor.
Salman Khan’s legal team has challenged the film’s production, promotion and proposed release, arguing for restrictions on its distribution.
According to Khan’s lawyer Prag Khandhar, the film cannot be shown in cinemas or released on an OTT platform until the next hearing.
The Delhi High Court has also directed all parties to submit their responses before the next hearing, which is scheduled for September 30, 2026.
The latest order means the film’s theatrical and digital release remains on hold pending further proceedings and the status of its certification.
