ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has reported a return to profitability in the first quarter of 2026, posting a net profit of Rs3.1 billion compared to a loss of Rs4 billion in the same period last year, driven by strong operational performance and consolidation of newly acquired assets.

The PTCL Q1 2026 results reflect significant growth across telecom, broadband, and mobile segments, supported by the integration of Telenor Pakistan and improvements in subsidiary performance. The results mark a turnaround for the group as it expands its footprint in Pakistan’s digital and connectivity market.

The company reported a 58 percent increase in consolidated revenue year-on-year, while operating profit rose sharply due to improved performance in mobile services, broadband expansion, and recovery in banking operations through Ubank.

The acquisition and integration of Telenor Pakistan, approved by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, played a central role in boosting revenue and expanding PTCL’s customer base and infrastructure nationwide.

Growth across business segments

PTCL’s wireline segment recorded steady growth, driven by increased demand for fiber broadband and enterprise solutions. Revenue rose by 6.5 percent year-on-year, supported by expansion in high-speed internet services and wholesale business.

In the wireless segment, revenue more than doubled following the inclusion of Telenor Pakistan’s operations, while operating profit also saw a sharp increase due to improved performance of Ufone and integration benefits.

The group’s banking arm, Ubank, also showed recovery, contributing to overall financial improvement during the quarter.

Expansion in digital infrastructure

During the period, PTCL secured spectrum in Pakistan’s 5G auction, positioning itself for next-generation connectivity. The company plans to use this spectrum across its combined network to expand coverage and improve service quality for more than 72 million customers.

PTCL also introduced upgrades to its fiber broadband services, offering higher base speeds to meet growing digital demand.

Focus on digital services and engagement

The group reported continued growth in digital services, including increased adoption of mobile apps, digital recharge systems, and online customer platforms. Telenor Pakistan also expanded its digital ecosystem, including app upgrades and customer service channels.

Social and community initiatives

PTCL said it continued social impact initiatives during the quarter, including digital skills training for women, public health awareness campaigns, and projects aimed at improving access to clean water in underserved regions.

Officials said the company’s performance reflects its strategy to strengthen its position as an integrated telecom and digital services provider while expanding infrastructure and service capabilities across Pakistan.
