Lahore is expected to get its first public app-based electric motorbike rental service, with the Punjab government planning to deploy 10,000 e-bikes and 300 docking and charging stations in the first phase.
Officials say the service is aimed at improving last-mile connectivity, easing short-distance commuting and reducing transport-related pollution in the city.
At present, Lahore does not have a widely available public electric motorbike rental network comparable to scooter-sharing services in major international cities. Riders looking for bikes today mostly rely on private motorcycle rental agencies, ride-hailing services or electric bike dealers.
Under the proposed system, users would be able to rent electric bikes through a mobile application for short trips and daily commuting. The project is being developed under Punjab’s Green Mobility Programme and still requires final approval before launch
Focus on Affordable, Green Mobility
Officials believe the e-bike rental network will particularly benefit students, office workers and daily-wage earners by lowering commuting costs amid rising fuel prices.
The government also expects the initiative to:
- Reduce carbon emissions from short-distance travel.
- Help tackle Lahore’s worsening smog and air pollution.
- Lower fuel consumption.
- Ease traffic congestion.
- Reduce urban noise pollution over time
