Islamabad: Pakistan Post has unveiled what it describes as the world’s longest commemorative postage stamp in tribute to renowned Pakistani artist, calligrapher and poet Sadequain during a ceremony held at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad.

The commemorative issue, launched on June 30, also includes a special souvenir sheet marking the artistic legacy of Sadequain, whose work continues to influence generations of artists in Pakistan and abroad. The initiative reflects Pakistan Post’s efforts to promote the country’s cultural heritage through philately.

The inauguration ceremony brought together government officials, artists, philatelists, cultural figures, media representatives and art enthusiasts to celebrate the contribution of one of Pakistan’s most influential creative personalities.

According to Pakistan Post, the commemorative issue recognizes Sadequain’s contributions to visual arts, calligraphy, literature and public murals, for which he gained both national and international recognition.

A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the commemorative stamp, which Pakistan Post described as an unprecedented achievement in the country’s philatelic history. Officials said the project combines art, culture and innovation while honouring one of Pakistan’s most celebrated cultural icons.

The commemorative stamp and souvenir sheet were conceptualized and designed by Abu Obaidah Ayyaz, identified by Pakistan Post as the country’s youngest postage stamp designer, in collaboration with Hasnain Mahmud.

In addition to the commemorative stamp, Pakistan Post released a specially designed First Day Cover (FDC), a philatelic leaflet and commemorative cancellation marks to accompany the issue for collectors.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pakistan Post officials said the issuance reflects the organization’s commitment to recognizing individuals whose contributions have helped shape Pakistan’s artistic and intellectual identity.

They added that commemorating national figures such as Sadequain helps preserve the country’s cultural heritage while promoting greater public appreciation of their work.

The commemorative stamp, souvenir sheet, First Day Cover, philatelic leaflet and related collectibles are now available through designated Pakistan Post Philatelic Bureaus and selected post offices across the country.

Pakistan Post also thanked government institutions, artists, philatelists, media representatives and members of the public for participating in the launch ceremony and helping commemorate Sadequain’s enduring legacy.
