MUZAFFARABAD: A Pakistan Army Aviation MI-17 helicopter crashed near Muzaffarabad after reportedly developing a technical fault shortly after takeoff, resulting in the martyrdom of all personnel on board, according to the military’s media wing.
The helicopter accident prompted an immediate rescue and recovery operation at the crash site, while authorities launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. The crash marks a significant loss for the armed forces and has drawn condolences from military and government leaders.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the MI-17 helicopter encountered a technical malfunction during flight and subsequently crashed near Muzaffarabad.
The military said all personnel aboard the aircraft were martyred and no survivors were found. Rescue and emergency teams were dispatched to the area soon after the crash and began relief and recovery efforts.
Inquiry Board Formed To Investigate Crash
ISPR said a high-level inquiry board has been constituted to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident and assess the nature of the reported technical fault.
The investigation will examine operational and technical factors linked to the helicopter crash.
Military Leadership Expresses Condolences
According to ISPR, the Chief of Army Staff, the Chief of Defence Staff, and officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.
The military leadership extended condolences to the families of the martyred personnel and said the armed forces stand with them during this difficult period.
Prime Minister Pays Tribute
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over the helicopter crash and paid tribute to the personnel who lost their lives in the incident.
The prime minister said the nation salutes the sacrifices of its servicemen and prayed for the departed souls and their bereaved families.
