The Islamabad High Court has taken up a petition regarding alleged solitary confinement of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, directing prison authorities to submit detailed reports and complete jail records.

The hearing, conducted by Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, marks a key development in the case, as the court sought clarification from the Adiala Jail superintendent on whether the two prisoners are being kept in solitary confinement, and if so, under what legal justification, for how long, and whether it constitutes a form of punishment.

The court also asked authorities to explain the facilities being provided to both detainees and to submit records regarding their treatment and conditions in custody. It further inquired whether the allegations of solitary confinement hold factual basis.

Officials were instructed to present detailed documentation, including jail registers and relevant records, during the next hearing. The court also directed that the Inspector General of Prisons or a senior official with direct knowledge of the matter appear before it.

The bench observed that it would first determine the admissibility of the petitions after reviewing the submitted reports. All parties have been asked to file their responses by August 6.

Further proceedings will continue once the court reviews the submitted evidence and official records.
