BEED, INDIA: A family in Maharashtra’s Beed district has celebrated the birth of a baby girl after claiming that no daughter had been born in their family for nearly 200 years.
According to Indian media reports, the family said it had been waiting for the birth of a girl for around five generations. The arrival of the newborn prompted celebrations, with relatives and local residents joining in a special welcome for the baby.
The family reportedly welcomed the newborn like a princess, organizing festivities to mark what they described as a rare and long-awaited occasion.
The baby’s grandfather became emotional while speaking to the media, saying the birth of a daughter was a moment of great happiness and good fortune for the family.
Her grandmother also expressed her joy, saying the entire family was delighted to welcome a baby girl into their home.
The baby’s father said her birth had brought a different kind of happiness to the family. He noted that while sons are often preferred in many societies, the experience of welcoming a daughter brings its own special joy.
The family said the celebrations were also intended to convey a positive social message that the birth of a daughter should be considered an occasion for happiness and pride and celebrated with the same enthusiasm as the birth of a son.
The claim that the family had gone around 200 years without a daughter is based on the family’s account and has not been independently established.
