ISLAMABAD, November 5, 2026: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has called on the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) to establish a welfare mechanism for journalists, including financial compensation for families of media workers who die while performing their duties.

In a post on social media platform X on Thursday, the minister questioned why television broadcasters had yet to establish a journalists’ welfare fund or introduce a compensation package for deaths occurring in the line of duty, despite earning revenue from multiple sources.

Tarar pointed out that television channels receive advertising income from both government and private-sector clients, in addition to revenue generated through digital platforms.

He said broadcasters must take responsibility for developing a structured system to support journalists and provide financial protection to their families in the event of a work-related death.

The information minister specifically urged the PBA, which represents television broadcasters in Pakistan, to formulate an effective welfare and compensation framework.

Emphasising the need for action, Tarar said the existing situation could not be allowed to continue.
