KARACHI: The first Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Hangor, has arrived in Karachi, marking a significant development in Pakistan Navy’s fleet modernization efforts.
According to the Directorate General Public Relations (Navy), the submarine was given a traditional naval welcome upon its arrival. The ceremony was attended by senior naval officers, Pakistan Navy personnel and family members of the crew.
Cadets from the Pakistan Naval Academy presented a ceremonial salute to the submarine and its crew, while Pakistan Navy Z9EC helicopters conducted a fly-past as part of the reception.
A formal ceremony was later held at the Pakistan Navy Dockyard, where Commander Pakistan Fleet Vice Admiral Abdul Munib attended as the chief guest.
The Pakistan Navy Hangor-class submarine is equipped with advanced combat systems, modern sensors, Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology and enhanced stealth capabilities. Naval officials said these features are expected to strengthen the navy’s operational and combat capabilities.
The Hangor-class project forms part of Pakistan Navy’s broader modernization program aimed at enhancing maritime security and operational readiness.
According to the navy, the induction of PNS/M Hangor also reflects ongoing defence cooperation between Pakistan and China in the naval sector.
