ISLAMABAD: Zong has partnered with the Breathe Pakistan International Climate Change Conference 2026, a two-day forum focused on climate resilience, sustainability and coordinated action against environmental challenges facing Pakistan.
The conference brought together policymakers, development organizations, corporate leaders and climate experts to discuss issues including climate risk, economic stability, water scarcity, extreme weather events and sustainable development.
Pakistan remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate change despite contributing a relatively small share of global carbon emissions. Recent years have seen repeated floods, heatwaves, deteriorating air quality and increasing concerns over food and water security.
During the conference, a panel discussion titled “From CSR to Climate Leadership – Mobilising Pakistan’s Private Sector for Climate Action” examined the role of businesses in supporting climate resilience and sustainability initiatives.
Najeeb Ullah Khan represented Zong at the session and highlighted the importance of public-private cooperation in addressing climate-related risks.
He said the company was focusing on energy-efficient infrastructure, renewable energy investment and operational resilience to maintain communication services during climate-related emergencies.
Focus on renewable energy and sustainability
According to the company, around 85 percent of Zong’s network sites have been shifted to solar and lithium-ion energy systems, generating approximately 1.43 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually.
The company stated that these systems helped maintain connectivity during floods in Sindh and Balochistan by supporting communication services for emergency responders and affected communities.
Zong also said it had planted 3,500 indigenous trees in Islamabad in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency.
The company added that flexible work policies and operational efficiency measures had contributed to monthly energy savings exceeding 22,000 kilowatt-hours.
Officials at the conference stressed the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors to support climate resilience and sustainable development in Pakistan.
