KARACHI: The Sindh government is preparing to purchase 500 electric buses to expand public transport services across the province, with the Transport Department having submitted a proposal to the provincial cabinet for approval.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the new electric buses would be introduced in different cities in phases after approval. He said the government was expanding public transport services beyond Karachi through the continued expansion of the Peoples Bus Service.
50 Double-Decker Buses Expected by November
Memon said 50 double-decker buses are expected to reach Sindh by November 30 and will be deployed on different routes.
He said the expansion of new routes is aimed at providing citizens with more affordable and improved transport options, while the double-decker buses will increase passenger capacity on selected routes.
The Peoples Bus Service has also been launched in Qambar Shahdadkot, where the service has received a positive response from residents, according to the minister.
Electric Buses to Expand Public Transport
Memon said the proposed electric buses would be introduced across urban areas as part of efforts to expand the province’s public transport network.
The Sindh government has said the programme is intended to extend modern public transport services to more cities rather than limiting them to Karachi.
