ISLAMABAD: Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has reached the No. 1 position in the ICC T20I bowling rankings for the first time, becoming the fifth Pakistani bowler to achieve the top ranking.
Abrar moved to the top by a narrow margin of one rating point over Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, who had held the No. 1 position for the previous six months.
Abrar Joins Elite Pakistani Group
Abrar is the fifth Pakistani bowler to top the T20I rankings. Before him, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Imad Wasim and Shahid Afridi had reached the No. 1 position.
Pakistan’s Mohammad Nawaz is currently ranked eighth, while Salman Mirza dropped one place to 19th.
Overton Makes Major Ranking Jump
England’s Jamie Overton made a significant 47-place jump to reach a career-best sixth position in the T20I bowling rankings.
In the batting rankings, England captain Harry Brook climbed to a career-best fourth position following his team’s successful home series against Sri Lanka.
Jos Buttler, who scored 172 runs in the series, moved to fifth place, just one position behind Brook.
Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan remains third in the T20I batting rankings, with no other Pakistani batter featuring in the top 20.
