Shah Rukh Khan’s Knight Riders Group has opened a purpose-built cricket venue in the United States, marking a major step for the sport’s growth in Los Angeles ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
The Knight Riders Cricket Ground in Pomona, Los Angeles, hosted its first competitive Major League Cricket match when the Los Angeles Knight Riders played Washington Freedom. The venue is expected to strengthen cricket’s footprint in the United States, where the sport is seeking wider recognition before its Olympic return in 2028.
The new ground has been developed as a permanent cricket hub for Los Angeles rather than a temporary match venue. It has eight wickets on the main square, playing dimensions built to international standards and six floodlight towers standing about 120 feet tall.
According to reports, more than 32,000 metric tonnes of earth were moved during construction to prepare the playing arena. The project gives the Los Angeles Knight Riders a dedicated home ground in Major League Cricket.
Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of the Knight Riders Group, said in a statement that a dream first imagined years ago had now become reality. He said the aim was not only to host cricket matches but also to create a place where sport, entertainment, families and communities could come together.
Knight Riders Sports CEO Venky Mysore described the venue as part of the group’s wider global strategy, saying modern cricket infrastructure is important for expanding the game in new markets.
The Knight Riders Group owns franchises across several major cricket leagues, including Kolkata Knight Riders, Trinbago Knight Riders, Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and Los Angeles Knight Riders. The Los Angeles venue adds a new physical base to the group’s international cricket presence.
The opening comes as cricket prepares to return to the Olympic programme at the Los Angeles 2028 Games, increasing attention on cricket facilities and fan development in the United State.
