Punjab launches electric bus service in Attock, CM Maryam Nawaz calls transport reform a top priority

Attock — The Punjab government has launched a new electric bus service in Attock aimed at improving public transport, with Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif describing affordable, safe, and environment-friendly mobility as a top priority of the provincial administration.

The service was inaugurated during a ceremony held in Attock and was also viewed live at the DC Office Attock. The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to modernize urban transport and reduce environmental pollution through electric mobility solutions.

Electric bus service details and routes

Officials briefed the ceremony that 9 electric buses have been introduced in the first phase. The fleet will operate on two routes: one from POF Sanjwal Barrier No. 2 via Bab Attock to Hazro, and another from Government College of Technology Dhok Fateh to Attock Khurd.

A total of 45 bus stops have been established across both routes. Authorities also announced that travel will be free for students, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.

Government and local leadership remarks

Addressing the ceremony, MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed said the initiative reflects new standards of public service and called the project a major development milestone for Attock. He also highlighted other government programs including housing and youth support schemes.

Attock Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza said the project aligns with provincial directives to improve public welfare infrastructure, adding that environmentally friendly transport will help reduce pollution in the district.

Other officials and political representatives also attended the ceremony and praised the initiative, calling it a step toward modern, inclusive urban mobility.
