PESHAWAR — April 26, 2026: Pakistan’s first national conference on minimally invasive cardiac surgery concluded at the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology, bringing together leading surgeons and specialists to discuss advanced techniques and future trends in heart treatment.
The two-day event, held on April 24–25, focused on modern surgical approaches that reduce the need for open-heart procedures. Experts said minimally invasive cardiac surgery can improve patient outcomes, shorten recovery times, and lower surgical risks, highlighting its growing importance in Pakistan’s healthcare system.
Focus on modern surgical techniques
The conference featured detailed academic sessions led by cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, and international experts. Discussions centered on evolving surgical methods, clinical outcomes, and the adoption of advanced technologies in cardiac care.
A key component of the event was live surgical demonstrations, allowing participants—particularly young doctors—to observe advanced procedures and gain practical experience.
Training and healthcare development
Dean and CEO Shahkar Ahmad Shah and Associate Dean Muhammad Tariq said the institute aims to promote modern healthcare practices and strengthen professional training through such academic initiatives.
They noted that continued exposure to advanced techniques would help improve cardiac care services in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and beyond.
Participation and institutional role
A large number of early-career doctors and surgeons attended the conference, benefiting from interaction with senior specialists. Participants and experts acknowledged the role of the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology as a key center for cardiac treatment and medical training in the province.
Officials said such conferences are expected to support the broader adoption of minimally invasive procedures and contribute to improving healthcare standards in Pakistan.
