UPPER DIR: Three members of a family were killed and a child critically injured when a Fielder car plunged into a river in the Sundrol area of Upper Dir on Tuesday.
According to Rescue 1122 and local police, the ill-fated vehicle was travelling from Dir toward Bain Darra in Barawal when the driver lost control at Sundrol. The car subsequently veered off the road and plunged hundreds of feet into the river.
Rescue 1122 teams, along with local volunteers, rushed to the site after receiving information about the accident and launched a rescue operation. The bodies and the injured child were recovered from the deep gorge and shifted to a hospital.
Police said the deceased belonged to the same family. They were identified as Abdus Salam, son of Abdul Hakeem; his wife, Bakhtora Bibi; and their daughter, Alina Bibi, all residents of Bain Darra, Barawal.
The injured child, Naeemullah, son of Abdus Salam, was shifted to DHQ Hospital Timergara in critical condition. He underwent surgery for a head injury, and doctors later said his condition had improved and he was out of danger.
Barawal Police have registered a case and launched a further investigation into the accident.
