Following the win, Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña announced a national public holiday on June 30 in recognition of the team’s achievement, calling it a proud moment in the country’s football history.
The knockout-stage match ended in a tense draw before being decided on penalties, where Paraguay held its nerve to eliminate one of the tournament favourites.
