ISLAMABAD — Pakistan targeted seven alleged militant camps and hideouts in Afghanistan in what officials described as intelligence-based operations, following recent suicide attacks inside Pakistan. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting confirmed the action in a statement issued on Saturday.

According to the ministry, the strikes were carried out against locations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region. Officials said the operations were launched in response to recent attacks in Islamabad, Bajaur and Bannu, which authorities allege were planned and directed by militants operating from Afghan territory.

The statement said the targeted sites were linked to members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), referred to by the government as “Fitna al Khawarij,” as well as affiliates and the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP). Pakistan maintains that it has repeatedly urged the Afghan interim government to prevent militant groups from using Afghan soil to carry out attacks across the border.

Afghan media outlets reported explosions in parts of Nangarhar and Paktia provinces, including Khogyani, Khel, Behsud and Murgha Bazaar areas. Reports said fighter jets were involved in the strikes. Afghan authorities had not immediately confirmed casualties or provided official details.

Pakistan’s statement described the action as a “retributive response” aimed at dismantling infrastructure used to plan and support cross-border attacks. Officials said the strikes were conducted with precision.

There were unverified reports circulating on social media, including claims from accounts associated with the banned TTP, suggesting casualties. However, independent confirmation of the extent of damage or casualties was not immediately available.

Pakistan reiterated its position that the safety and security of its citizens remains a priority and called on the Afghan authorities to take steps to prevent militant groups from operating from their territory. The statement also urged the international community to encourage adherence to commitments related to preventing cross-border militancy.

The situation along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border remains sensitive, with both sides previously exchanging accusations over security concerns.
