ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has awarded 11 onshore oil and gas blocks in a move aimed at strengthening domestic energy exploration and attracting new investment into the upstream sector.
The agreements for petroleum concessions and exploration licences were signed at a ceremony attended by Ali Pervaiz Malik. Officials said the development is expected to generate Rs8.66 billion in exploration investment over the next three years.
Under the agreements, companies will also allocate Rs276 million for social welfare initiatives in the respective exploration areas.
The blocks have been awarded to major energy firms, including Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Mari Energies Limited, Pakistan Oilfields Limited and Prime Global Energies Limited.
Of the 11 blocks, eight are located in Balochistan, two in Sindh and one in Punjab.

Speaking at the ceremony, the petroleum minister said the new awards form part of the government’s broader strategy to explore indigenous resources and encourage investment in the energy sector. He stated that promoting exploration activities is essential to reducing reliance on imported fuels and enhancing energy security.
Officials added that the initiative is also expected to create employment opportunities and support local development in areas where exploration work will be carried out.
The awards mark one of the latest steps in efforts to boost upstream oil and gas activity across the country.
